NEJATC’s goal is to provide the highest quality training to those interested in a career in the various fields within the electrical industry. The NEJATC trains apprentices to become an Inside Journeyman Wireman. Inside Journeymen Wiremen are electrical workers who install the power, lighting, controls and other electrical equipment in commercial and industrial buildings. In addition to receiving skill training on the job, our apprentices are provided trade related classroom training that produces competency and pride that lead to true craftsmanship. Quite often some local training committees provide special classes with hands-on training to support classroom lectures and discussions.

Inside Journeyman Training & Special Courses

Our trained Inside Journeyman Wiremen perform installation and maintenance for commercial and industrial complexes, including office buildings and all complexes, including petrochemical, pulp and paper plants, oil refiners, power houses, retail stores, hospitals, schools, manufacturing plants, etc.


Program Details:

  • 4 Year Systematic Program of Learning: Apprentices can obtain all essential knowledge and skill necessary for becoming an Inside Journeyman Wireman.
  • 8000 Hours of On-The-Job Training: Apprentices train to proficiency in installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of various electrical systems on commercial and industrial job site.
  • 720 Hours of Related Study (minimum): Apprentices will study theories relating to all job tasks important to the trade. Classroom time helps to reinforce skills learned while doing on-the-job training.
  • Classes 5:30pm-8:30pm Two Nights a Week: Days of the week will depend on availability and are assigned to the student.

Apprenticeships

NEJATC Apprenticeship Qualifications

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at selection
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED
  • Must have completed one credit of algebra with a passing grade from any accredited school or the equivalent (i.e.: high school Tech Math 1 and 2) or one post high school algebra class with a passing grade
  • Must take the AIR aptitude test and receive a qualifying score
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • An application for the apprenticeship program must be filled out and returned to the NEJATC office with a $30.00 application fee payable with a money order or a cashier’s check
  • Must submit to the NEJATC office official transcripts showing the above required information

How Can I Apply for the NEJATC Apprenticeship Program?

There are several ways that you can apply for this apprenticeship program:

Indentured Apprentice

  • An Indentured Apprentice is an individual who has been selected from the eligibility list by the NEJATC members/trustees for the next available class and has been registered with the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice.
  • An applicant must be on the eligibility list in order be selected for the next available class and registered with the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice.
  • If the individual is not yet working, the NEJATC will offer the individual work as an Indentured Apprentice and register the individual with the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice once the individual goes to work.
  • If the individual is already working, NEJATC will register the individual with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice and change the individuals classification from Un-Indentured Worker to Indentured Apprentice.

Wireman & Lineman Classifications

Complete Your Application

You can either print and complete the application at home, or fill one out in person at our office.

  • How long is the NEJATC apprenticeship program?

    Our Inside Wireman Apprenticeship Program is a 4-year program, combining classroom instruction with paid on-the-job training.

  • What are the class times and schedule?

    Classes are held two nights a week from 5:30 PM to 8:30 PM. Class days will vary based on availability and are assigned to each student after enrollment.

  • How many hours are required to complete the program?

    Apprentices must complete a minimum of 720 classroom hours and 8,000 hours of on-the-job training to graduate from the program.

  • Is there a cost to attend NEJATC?

    There are no tuition fees for apprentices. You’ll earn a wage while you train, and also receive paid health insurance, retirement, and pension benefits.

  • Can veterans apply and use their VA benefits?

    Yes! NEJATC’s apprenticeship programs are approved for Veterans Training, making it a great option for those transitioning to civilian careers.

  • Will I receive college credit for my apprenticeship?

    Yes, through the American Council on Education (ACE), apprentices can earn college credits while completing their training with NEJATC.
