NEJATC’s goal is to provide the highest quality training to those interested in a career in the various fields within the electrical industry. The NEJATC trains apprentices to become an Inside Journeyman Wireman. Inside Journeymen Wiremen are electrical workers who install the power, lighting, controls and other electrical equipment in commercial and industrial buildings.


In addition to receiving skill training on the job, our apprentices are provided trade related classroom training that produces competency and pride that lead to true craftsmanship. Quite often some local training committees provide special classes with hands-on training to support classroom lectures and discussions.

Inside Journeyman

Our trained Inside Journeyman Wiremen perform installation and maintenance for commercial and industrial complexes, including office buildings and all complexes, including petrochemical, pulp and paper plants, oil refiners, power houses, retail stores, hospitals, schools, manufacturing plants, etc. Read additional information about the job description for an Inside Journeyman Wireman here.


Program Details:

  • 4 to 5 Year Systematic Program of Learning: Apprentices can obtain all essential knowledge and skill necessary for becoming an Inside Journeyman Wireman.
  • 8000 Hours of On-The-Job Training: Apprentices train to proficiency in installation, maintenance and troubleshooting of various electrical systems on commercial and industrial job site.
  • 900 Hours of Related Study (minimum): Apprentices will study theories relating to all job tasks important to the trade. Classroom time helps to reinforce skills learned while doing on-the-job training.

Apprenticeship Qualifications:

  • Must be a minimum of 18 years of age at selection
  • Must have a high school diploma or a GED
  • Must have completed one credit of algebra with a passing grade from any accredited school or the equivalent (i.e.: high school Tech Math 1 and 2) or one post high school algebra class with a passing grade
  • Must take the AIR aptitude test and receive a qualifying score
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license
  • An application for the apprenticeship program must be filled out and returned to the NEJATC office with a $30.00 application fee payable with a money order or a cashier’s check
  • Must submit to the NEJATC office official transcripts showing the above required information

How Can I Apply for the NEJATC Apprenticeship Program?

There are several ways that you can apply for this apprenticeship program:

  • You can view and print an application (includes application, job details & supplemental Info) for the apprenticeship program. Also, make sure you read the applicant information that corresponds to the application
  • You can call our office at 615-442-8849 and we’ll mail you an application and an information packet right away
  • You can fill out an application in our office Monday – Thursday from 1:30 PM to 3:00 PM
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license


NOTE: Make certain that whichever way you choose to apply to this apprenticeship program, you remember to enclose or bring your $30.00 application fee payable with a money order or a cashier’s check. Personal checks or cash will not be accepted.

Construction Wireman/Electrician

The Construction Wireman Classification can be utilized in two different ways:

  • Any individual who has applied for the apprenticeship program and wants to start working, but has not yet met all qualifications for the apprenticeship program can be placed to work as a Construction Wireman Level 1 if work is available.
  • If an individual has not applied for (or is not interested in) the apprenticeship program, but is interested in working as a Construction Wireman, that individual can contact the NEJATC Office at 615-442-8849.

Indentured Apprentice

An Indentured Apprentice is an individual who has been selected from the eligibility list by the NEJATC members/trustees for the next available class and has been registered with the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice.


An applicant must be on the eligibility list in order be selected for the next available class and registered with the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice.


If the individual is not yet working, the NEJATC will offer the individual work as an Indentured Apprentice and register the individual with the US Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice once the individual goes to work.


If the individual is already working, NEJATC will register the individual with the U.S. Department of Labor’s Office of Apprentice and change the individuals classification from Un-Indentured Worker to Indentured Apprentice.

Sub-Journeyman Wireman

Individuals may be able to be to go to work under the Sub-Journeyman Wireman Classification if there is a need at TVA job sites. Any individual interested in this classification should call the NEJATC Office at 615-442-8849.

Outside Lineman

Outside Linemen are electrical workers who install the distribution and transmission lines, which move power from power plant to a factory, a business, or your home.
